Recording, Day One and Two

12:04am

Right now we’re in Los Angeles (actually I’m told it’s Village Valley) recording with our good friend Matt Appleton. Yep, that means new music coming very soon. We’ve been having a blast out here and the new songs are sounding awesome! Here’s a few pictures from our first two days of recording…enjoy!

Farewell (for now)

1:47pm

As some of you have seen, we are advertising for our 2 “Farewell For Now” shows. Here’s the scoop.

7 years ago, The Rob and I started a 2 piece band in his basement that would later become “Broke,” and then “Broke City.” We recorded demos on an 8-track, made CD sleeves by hand out of duct tape, and combed the streets of Salt Lake trying to get booked. We added a bass player, turned it into more of a group. Since then, we’ve had the opportunity to do things as friends and band-mates that we never thought possible. We’ve traveled all over, been lost, found ourselves, overcome personal struggles, made and lost friendships, I even met my wife because of a tour we were on.

A couple of months ago, we lost our 4th bass player, and were faced AGAIN with the task of finding someone new. To be honest, it’s been a really rough couple of years for us because the constant “changing of the guard” has killed the momentum of our band and stifled any plans we’ve had. I am simply out of gas, and feel like any more energy I put into this project right now as far as hunting for a new bass player, getting them up to speed, booking shows, touring, etc, would be better spent somewhere else.

There are some Broke City songs that never really saw the light of day. After these 2 “Farewell For Now” shows, we’re going to record them and make them available online. We love the recording process, and I feel that just because we won’t be looking for a bass player or booking any more shows, it doesn’t mean we can’t put these few songs out. We LOVE the recording process, and have a lot of fun sharing new music:)

As far as the wording, “Farewell For Now”, we felt it appropriate just because you never know what’s going to happen. Sometimes there are artists or bands who come through town that we love, and if the opportunity comes up, we’d love to play with them here in Salt Lake. That being said, these 2 shows will be our last 2 shows in the foreseeable future.

Last Utah County Bar Show…

12:40pm

Greetings and salutations fellow Utahns! Tonight will most likely be our last bar performance ever in Utah County, and the last chance you may ever have to see us play some of our older songs. We’re playing at the Deer Hunter Pub and Grill in Spanish fork, and it’s $5. I’ll be opening with an acoustic set, so try to get there by 9:30. We’ll be playing all night until around 1:00 am. See you tonight!

New Website!

2:26pm

Welcome to the new Broke City website! We feel like this will be a great way to keep in contact with everyone, in addition to Facebook and Twitter and all those other social networking-type places. We’ll be updating this thing lots and lots with band news, updates from the road, new pictures, videos, and more… so make sure to come back often! :)

See you all soon!
